The Calla Lily
This beautiful lily we have
chosen to fly,
And if you read on we'll tell
you why.
This symbol of the lily we
have taken has great meaning,
Always growing tall and never
leaning.
The sun shall always shine on
it and it shall never blister,
This yellow Calla Lily we have
chosen is for our brother and sister.
Who serve our great country
over in Iraq,
Who answered the call and
never looked back.
Although they are so far away
from their fort,
They know they don't have to
look far for support.
The call went out and they are
not the only one,
This Calla Lily will be
standing tall until the war is done.
So that all soldiers who look
upon it know they are not alone,
This Calla Lily will be here
until they all come home.
This Calla Lily is not just
for those in Iraq,
It is for ALL the soldiers who
answered the call and didn't look back.
Although on foreign soils they
may fight,
Heartland Heroes Project will
never lose sight.
We want ALL of our soldiers to
be aware,
That America is here for them
and that we care.
Heartland Heroes Project wants
them to ALL know,
That we HONOR each and
everyone as a HERO.
If you would like to take this
Calla Lily for your site,
Please fly it both day and
night.
To let ALL soldiers far from
home,
Be able to look upon it and
know they are not alone.
For all the sacrifices you
have given and for all that you do,
We at Heartland Heroes Project
would like to take this time to say
THANK YOU

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS DOES IT AGAIN!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
The caring individuals of Southern Illinois came through again. Heartland Heroes Project and the men and women of the armed forces want to give a very big thank you to the businesses and communities that both donated the items for the sale and that came out to support our mission for the soldiers.
Around 2400 people attended the two day event even though the temperatures were on the rise here in the area, people came out by the flocks to get the great deals and support our troops. Every event that we hold keeps growing in size. None of this would be possible if it were not for the great individuals and businesses, none of this would be possible.
Heartland Heroes Project would like to also give a very special thank you to all the volunteers who put in countless hours of work to make sure all of these events are successful and a very special thank you to Marcie Carrier of Carterville that has taken the time to do a supply drive for the items needed to send to the troops. Thank you to all that have donated to the supply drive to help us gather the items needed.
Again thank you for all your support. God Bless our Troops and God Bless America.

We are currently looking for people or groups to write letters & color pictures to the soldiers so we can put them in our care packages so we can give them a little extra when they open their boxes. If you are a group and wish to write letters, color pictures or make cards, please make sure there is a return address so the soldiers will know where they came from and possibly respond back to you. Heartland Heroes Project would like to take this time to thank you in advance for your efforts and support. None of this would be possible if it were not for the businesses and people here in Southern Illinois.

A Request
For All The Schools
![](https://heartlandheroes.tripod.com/graphics/miscgraphics/children.jpg)
If you are a
teacher or affiliated with a school, Heartland Heroes Project
needs your help. We are asking all schools in this Great
Nation to please have the children write letters and color
pictures to be sent to the troops in Iraq, Afghanistan
to let them know we support their efforts and that we
are here for them. We enclose these letters and pictures in
our care packages we send to them. It gives the soldier a
little 'something extra' when they open their packages and
helps boost morale. This is an ongoing campaign that runs all
year round. If you feel you would like to participate with
this, please e-mail us at heartlandheroes@yahoo.com or call us
at (618) 985-9409. We are also asking the schools place boxes at the end of the year to collect any extra school supplies that are left over at the end of the year. These can be new or used, it doesn't matter to a child who has lost everything. If you are interested in placing the boxes, please contact us either by phone or e-mail. Thank you in advance for all your
support.
A Very Special Thank
You To The Following Schools
A Very Special Thank You To The Children of Lincoln Elementary School! Marion, IL.
Heartland Heroes Project Inc. and our Troops would like to send a very special Thank You to all of the children and staff of Lincoln Elementary School in Marion, IL. who participated in making the flags and letters to be sent to our troops stationed overseas. A very, very special thank you to Jessica Murphy and Shannon Gardner from Americorps who volunteered their time to work with the children to make the flags and for showing outstanding patriotism. Without the help of Americorps and the staff and children in the schools of this Great Country, none of this would be possible. Again a very special Thank You from Heartland Heroes Project Inc.
